Tom Chaplin - Twleve Tales of Christmas

I found Christmas a great source of inspiration for writing my own songs for this record. Although it’s a time for eating, drinking and getting together with our families, it's also be a time for reflection. There’s a bittersweetness to this and so I’ve explored themes of love, lost love, remembering those we have lost and of trying to bring a sense of hope and light to a troubled world.

Start Exploring

We're surfing in the air
We're swimming in the frozen sky
We're drifting over icy mountains floating by

In spite of everything
To simple truths we cling
To follow the guiding star of love in our
hearts and homes

In these frozen and silent nights
Sometimes in a dream you appear
Outside under the purple sky
Diamonds in the snow sparkle

We’re on a blue green ball
Forever in freefall
Spinning beneath our feet
Love as our gravity
Under a million lights
Shimmering satellites
Shining in the sky tonight

I'm so hard to handle
I'm selfish and i'm sad
Now i've gone and lost the best baby
That I ever had
Oh I wish I had a river
I could skate away on

For all the violence we've seen
For all the mindless suffering
Here we stand
With this town
There's still love
To be found

These tales of you and me
Are circles incomplete
God knows if we will
Ever meet again

Good times we had return
To haunt me
Though it's for you
All that I do seems to be wrong

Every heart and every soul
In every town around the world
Don't we all deserve a little more?
And how we try to right the wrong
We talk of love and moving on
But every year is like the one before

In photographs your face is pale
Just like a winter fairytale
The princess set in stone
Lies forever all alone

Light glows out of windows
Like a ghost i'm only passing through
Oh God knows where my heart goes
All I know is it brings me to you

Through a cracked kaleidoscope
Colours are haunting me
But I can't fix a trick of the light
Not now
